January 2009 Trip - Toy Story Mania

By Arthur Correa • Author

We checked in about 10 or so, but our room wasn't ready.  So we stored the bags and decided to hit the Hollywood Studios.  The kids were excited (as were my wife and I).  By the time we got our park passes and into the park it was around 11 or so.  Studios was a lot busier than we expected it to be, very busy in fact, lots of tour groups.

Ok, what to do first.  Toy Story Mania was the overwhelming choice from my son.  So we headed back there to check out the line and/or get fast passes.  It was only 11 it shouldn't be a problem, or so we thought.  Actually fast passes were already gone for the day (those tour groups must have sucked them all up).  .  Pfft, that stinks, but whatever the line was at 70 minutes.  We could wait right?

Well not really.  My daughter, Catie, is just barely 3, and a 70 minute line wait just isn't going to work for her (or us) between potty needs and snacks never mind an extreme lack of patience.  So we wanted to get a  baby swap for her and my wife.  My son, Eric (6), and I would wait in the 70 minute ride no problem.  Well the lady at the fast pass entrance gave us some smarmy answer "Oh this ride is for any ages."

"Yup I know that, but to be honest the line isn't."

"Tell you what." she says, "you and your son stand in line and when you get off I'll let your wife and daughter in."

"Uhmm k, isn't that just a baby swap?  Whatever."

So my son and I wait in line ready for the 70 minute wait.  Fortunately the line queue is pretty interesting in there.  Its such a giant nostalgia trip for me, and just fun all around for my son.  Strangely enough I also noticed that the little green army men were missing (over the summer there were about a dozen of the small green army men in little nooks and crannies around the queue, but I didn't see a single one this time).  So we wait, we ride, we have a blast!

Once we got off of Toy Story Mania, we go to the fast pass entrance and my wife is there waiting for us.  Well woudln't you know it, but the person at the fast pass entrance had changed.  So we had to explain the whole situation to this new CM.

"Why didn't she just give you a baby swap pass?" she asked.  Uhmm, yeah you're preaching to the choir on that one.  Anyway she goes to let us in, and Catie decides she doesn't want to go on the ride.*Sigh*.

No big deal.  We ended up going on the ride about 4 or 5 times over the course of the trip.  So what were our impressions of the ride?

Artie - I love this ride.  I think its basically Buzz Lightyear 2.0.  They made the shooting more fun than just pressing a button, and solved the problems of having two people that want to shoot in different directions (since you just look straight at the screen).  Couple that with the 3D graphics and its a lot of fun.  I actually got a high score on Thursday 1/29 (208,800, it was the 3rd highest score, but still a high score), usually I'm somewhere between 150K and 180K so it was a good round for me.

Christine - It's fun (Okay so she's not exactly a fan of this blogging thing)

Eric -I love this ride because its fun because you get to shoot stuff and get points! And in the practice round you get to shoot pies at Buzz Lightyear!

Catie - This ride is cool, but I fall down when the ride turns around and bump my head sometimes.  I don't want any help, I want to do it all by myself!  The glasses are too big, they don't stay on! Can I get the prize it shows me when the ride is all done?
