January 2009 Trip - Magic Kingdom - Part 2

Liberty Square

Oddly enough, for all that its not a major land in thie park I've always liked Liberty Square.  Something about the buildings there, the bridge, and the Liberty Belle just makes for a nice area.

Sleepy Hollow

For a long time the Sleepy Hollow bakery was a bit unknown, it just was never that busy unless people were waiting for a parade.  Couple that with the fact that it was one of two places where you could get ice cream cookie sandwiches (on the big chocolate chip cookies that they sell), or a root beer float, and it was a nice little hidden surprise.

That being said they don't use the same vanilla bean ice cream in those treats as the Main Street Bakery does, they use soft serve so its not quite as good.  But it will do in a pinch.

Haunted Mansion

I've liked the Haunted Mansion for years.  Sure the effects are not crazy complex, and they are blown away by modern computer generated stuff, but the ride is just down so well.  My favorite part has to be the banquet hall, there is just so much going on to look at, and it is done so well.  The whole ride is done well,  from the outside appearance of a lonely house on a hill, to the music throughougt, and each and every part of the ride is fully fleshed out and detailed.

A year or two a go they did a refurb on the ride and it went from fun and silly to actually kind of creepy.  Its not scary or frightening, but there is more of a Haunted aspect than there used to be.  I actually like it even more now.

Hall of Presidents

This was getting rehabbed during our trip and was all wrapped up on construction tents to hide it from view.  Which is kind of a bummer.  This is a nice show.  The audio animatronics are really well done.

Frontier Land

One of my earliest memories of this park is being in Frontier Land and watching the Electrical Light Parade (or whatever it was called back in the early 80s).  Its a cool area of the park with my favorite ride in the Magic Kingdom..

Splash Mountain

I was a little bummed this trip.  My son has ridden this in the past, twice actually, but he didn't want to ride it this time.  Eric is scared by the big drop, and I don't blame him.  From his point of view its a big drop!  So we didn't get to go on this ride this trip.  Oh well, I just love the theming and story throughout the ride.  A clear and entertianing story is told throughout this ride and its just a great twist on a normal old flume ride.

Country Bear Jamboree

I was stunned.  Usually we are in this show at least 2 or 3 times each day.  This trip I think I only hit it 2 or 3 times total.  That being said, we've been on it so many times overall that I've noticed something.  The ride is completely different with a good audience.  If you have one that gets into it with clappin', hootin', and hollerin' and its a lot of fun.  It feels more like an actual show.  However if the audience just sits there like lumps its kind of lame.

Eric and Catie could just sit in this show all day long.  Which is actually kind of nice at times. Air condiitioning, you get to sit for a good 15 minutes.  Not too bady really.

Adventure Land

This is an often overlooked land for my family.  Thekids don't like the Tiki room (and honeslty Christine and I don't think its that great either.  Some nice animatronics in there, but its lost its charm a bit.  Maybe we're just getting old).

Just about the only thing we're sure to do in tihs area is get Dole Whip (which we didn't do this trip somehow so maybe we're not so sure to do it), and Pirates.

Pirates of the Caribbean

This is another completely done ride like the H aunted Mansion.  The entire aspect, from the outside, to the queue, to each scene is so detailed that the whole ride is just great.

On top of that the Jack Sparrow additions are pretty well done.  The Sparrow at the end is one of the best examples of audio animatronics that I've seen, and the Davy Jones water screen is just a cool effect.

Jungle Cruise

Love the corny jokes.  My wife and I recite them all with the skipper as we ride it.  Tons of fun.  THe best line I ever heard was "Please take your children by the hand and help them off the boat.  Any children left behind are taken over to It's a Small World, nail their feet to the floor, and teach them to sing that song over and over again."

Magic Carpets

Its a Dumbo clone, but done so much better.  Between allowing 4 people to ride at a time, to having people line up for a specific numbered carpet its just done a bit better.  That being said, it lacks a certain something that Dumbo has.  I mean you're riding on Dumbo for crying out loud!
