Ice Cream

By Arthur Correa • Author

Tonight we made ice cream with the kids using our new Ice Cream Ball for the first time.   To be fair the Ice Cream maker wasn't exactly new.  I had gotten it for Christmas, but it was the first time we had actually used it.

I remember making ice cream as a kid with an ice cream maker that you put ice and rock salt around a bucket ingredients and then spun a handle to keep the bucket of ingredients moving.  I remember I had fun doing it, but it was a lot of work, and took a long time to do.

Well Ice Cream Ball did take a while as well, but it was much easier and a lot more fun than I remember doing as a kid.  The kids, my wife, and I all sat down in a square on the floor in the living room and just took turns rolling the ball to each other.  The kids had a blast, and the ice cream was done in about 20 minutes or so.

So how did the ice cream come out?  Overall it was frozen pretty well, but it was a bit soft  Next time we'll make sure we pre-chill the ingredients (this was a spur of the moment thing).  We have an electric ice cream maker that we've used a bunch in the past and we found as long as we pre-chilled the ingredients the ice cream came out perfect.

The only other thing I could add was that the icre cream maker doesn't make that much ice cream at once.  Apparently they now make a bigger one, so I'd recommend using that one.
