World of Warcraft

So roughly 4 or 5 years after it launched, I'm finally trying World of Warcraft on a free trial account.

Why did I wait so long?  Well it gets to my own opinions on how companies should charge for online games.  I don't mind if an online game charges for the game, but if you do, don't then charge me monthly to use the game I bought (this is the Guild Wars model).

On the other hand, if you don't charge me for the game, I don't mind the monthly fee, the company has to make money somehow.

That opinion pretty much kept me away from WOW, and instead steered me to Guild Wars for a number of years.  I really enjoyed Guild Wars (and all its expansions), and never missed out on WOW.  The fact that most of my gaming friends were playing Guild Wars as well helped.

Then one by one, people faded away from GW.  Hey it happens.  People want something new.  Well I'm the same way too.  I mostly played single player for a while until Warhammer Online came out this past fall.  I had so much fun in that game for a while that I kind of changed my opinion of paying for MMOs.  I'm more willing to give them a chance now.

So I'm giving WOW a free trial to see if it sucks me in.  So far I have my Orc Shaman on the Gnomer-somerhing or other server up to level 6.  Its fun, but I think I like Warhammer Online better.  The quests seem more fun in Warhammer, WOW quests are very Fedex in nature (go get this for me, or go kill a slew of things and come back to me).  So far its ok, but I could see it getting boring quick.

Well I'll give it a couple of weeks and check back in on what I'm thinking again after that, until then All Glory to the Horde!
