How I stopped playing GTA, for now

By Arthur Correa • Author

So like a lot of my gaming friends I couldn't wait for GTA IV to come out on the PC.  When it finally came out just before Christmas I told my wife I'd wait to see if I got it for Christmas rather than buy it, but I was really looking forward to playing it.

To steal a line from My Blue Heaven...

....5 o'clock Christmas morning, I run downstairs and look under the tree and what do I find? Uncle Alfresco, dead on the floor, shot through the back of the head. Plus no GTA IV. It was a dispointing Christmas on many levels

Actually that's not true at all, I did get GTA IV (that movie just has so man grea lines in it), and I couldn't wait to check it out.  But what happened when I finally checked it out made me feel like that line.

So a few days go buy before I get a chance to try to install it.  I put the DVD in, run the installer and go to play it.

You need to setup Rockstar Live (or whtever its called).  Uhmm ok, I really don't want to, but I have to so fine.  I register and create an account on Rockstar Live.

Great I'm ready to go!  Lets play.  Wait you need to get Windows Live configured.  Well I'm pretty sure I have it installed already, so I try to set it up, and run GTA IV again.

It crashes upon startup.  *Sigh*.

So I do a little more tooling around, and decide its my Windows Live installation.  I go to its installer and there was an option to repair it.  I do thiat and run GTA IV

It crashes on startup *sigh)

Alrigt no more fooling around.  I uninstall Windows Live completely and reinstall it.  I go to run GTA IV and it runs!!!

Woo hoo lets go.  I go through the first mission, cool, nice little intro.  I get a feel for the controls.  I'm not sure I like the driving so far, but that could just be the car.I finish the mission and go back to my apartment to save.

I go to save... and the game crashes *sigh*

Screw it, this isn't woth the hastle.  Sure it might be a great game, but come on this is just silly.  So I uninstall, and wait, it gets better.

I go to play another game that I got for Christmas (Left 4 Dead) and the game won't start, it says it can't find the Direct X dlls.  What the hell?  All of a sudden my Direct X installation was gone.  The last thing I did was.... uninstall GTA IV.  You mean to tell me it uninstalled my DX?  Yup!

Forget it, I'm done with this.
